It was one of seven rods that the owners of Angler's Mail consined Clif Constable to build for them. The rods were only sold through the Cleveland fly shop. The rods were sold in the 70's and parelleled the rods he sold through his England rod shop. The US rods cast better due to a change in the guide spacing at the request of one of the AM owners.
The US rods had colored wraps as apposed to the black wraps of the English rods. The rods in the 70's sold for about $100.00 and you could purchas a second tip at that time if you so desired. The Constable rods are fantastic canting rod, that he wanted people to fish with. Constable never became a highly collectable rod for what ever the reason. I have four of the seven rods including an unfished Empress with 2 tips that I paid $450. for.

Let me know if you have any other questions

I am not sure if this form is still active, but I would like to respond in case it is still active. I have a 7'3" bamboo fly rod made by Constable of Bromley England which I purchased from L.L.Bean in the mid-1970s. It is the Brokenstraw model with two tips, number 872. I have never fished this rod but I have tried its action in a school gymnasium. It seems to be a great little rod for a 3 or 4 weight line. It comes with the original cloth sleeve and aluminum tube. I was wondering if you could give me what the approximate value of it is and if there is any interest in purchasing it or where I might be able to sell it. I am now a quadriplegic, unable to fly fish anymore, but flyfishing with a bamboo fly rod was my passion for many years. I also have two other unnamed 8'6" bamboo fly rods. I would appreciate any information you can pass on. Thanks

John,
Sory it took so long, the links are old but I do a constable surch form time to time to check them. I don't know if you are interested in parting with the Constable or not. The Brokenstraw is one that I don't have and would be intrested, if you are incline to sell. Constable was a great rod maker for someone who wanted his rods fished. He was a builder that thought if the rod doesen't need to be fancy to work and cast reilly well. I will give you my e-mail address, it will make contacting me easier.
Hope to hear from you.

Hi John,
Found this message late. I am interested in your Constable Brokenstraw if still available. It is named after the Brokenstraw here in western Pennsylvania where I live.

Regards,
John
