early season blues

Howdy all, I’m a bit new to fly fishing. I have played around for a summer in the Sierras with a fly rod before, but I have little insight on these eastern rivers and streams. I am in central New Jersey now with many questions on early season flies and setups. I have never dabbled in the early season game. Any suggestions?

The best is to keep it simple in the eairly season. I live in Ohio and fish North Western Pa most of the time for trout. Streamers and Muddlers are the best for the spring, but don't forget that the caddis flies and stone flys are great too. Check with a local shop or just strike up a conversation with a local on the stream to see whats working. I like to carry a wide variety of patterns that will match anything like the Misquito, if they are taking dry flies and you don't have that pattern it should work...
