Hi gang, anyone ever fish the Delaware river near Milford, PA? If so any tips? Stream access? Was thinking about camping up that way and doing some fishing. I am sort of a newbie to fly fishing. Thanks!

I go up there every year and stay at River Beach Campsites. There is some good smallmaouth fishing all around that area. I usually do a float or kayak trip from above Rte 84 bridge down to the site or the area which I think is even better is about 5-6 miles above Port Jervis on the NY side. You can fish with both PA or NY licenses when you are on the river. I do fly fish, but it is tough to do it from a kayak or raft. It is best to pull over at the best spots to fish. I use a 5WT rod with a sinking line and a short (5-6 ft) leader to get the fly down quickly. I will use crayfish patterns, sculpins, wooly buggers, etc. for the smallies. All colors seem to work. I generally prefer to use white or cream colors the most. An average day I will catch 20-30 fish; mostly in the 10-12" range. Not big, but fun to catch. If you are looking for trout you need to travel up to Hancock.
