I want to dye the tail of a Whitetailed deer for fly tying.
What type of dye works best, and where can I get some?
Tried various material dye and it just does not work.

Answering my own question, since it was really difficult to find an answer for me. Rite dye will work, but the best dye according to Custom bait in South Dakota, Jacquard is the best dye for squirrel and animal hair. Use the dye/water/vinegar solution in very hot water, and upon removel soak in a mixture of cold water and dissolved rock salt. This will cause the colorto set better and aviod bleeding or fading.

You can purchase 40 colors of this dye at earthsongfibers.com . Plus thay have a jetblack that will turn a fos or squirrel tail to a deep black color. I have order this and well tell you how it works on deer tails. The post on the above information was posted 11/21/2003.
I hope this helps others.
